Yoga Therapy

– What is Yoga Therapy?

Gary Kraftsow, American Viniyoga Institute: “Yoga therapy, derived from the Yoga tradition of Patanjali and the Ayurvedic system of health care refers to the adaptation and application of Yoga techniques and practices to help individuals facing health challenges at any level manage their condition, reduce symptoms, restore balance, increase vitality, and improve attitude.”

Using a client intake and assessment, Yoga Therapists look at the individual from a holistic, whole person lens to identify areas of imbalance. The Yoga Therapist guides the client towards balance using the practices found within Yoga methodology and philosophy. A client will work with these practices, both during one to one or small group sessions, as well as at home and in their daily lives. Progress is continuously evaluated and measured and the practices are refined along the way as needed.

Who is Yoga Therapy For?

Generally, Yoga Therapy is for anyone who is seeking to improve their physical, energetic, mental, and/or spiritual well-being. I have worked with clients who have a broad range of experiences, including anxiety, depression, ADHD, chronic pain, grief/loss, and trauma. I have also worked with clients who simply want an individualized approach to a Yoga practice.

Working with Me

Yoga Therapy is a commitment to oneself and because of this, I require clients to book a minimum of two sessions to work with me. We will spend the first session going over your intake form and assessment, and have a brief discussion to go over any questions either of us may have. I will then guide you through a short Yoga practice (roughly 30 minutes), followed by a discussion about your experience. We will collaborate on your post-session guidelines and establish an accessible at-home practice (“homework”) for you to explore between sessions. This may include aspects of the practice done during the session, links to meditations or other practice videos, and/or skill-based work such as journaling. Follow-up sessions will include energetic check-ins, reviewing homework, exploring additional practices/refining your initial practices, and reviewing your progress.

Types of Sessions/Cost

First Two Sessions Bundled:
Private, In Person (Austin, TX) – $130-$180 (sliding scale)
Private, Virtual (Skype) – $80-$130 (sliding scale)

Follow-Up Sessions:
Private, In Person (Austin, TX) – $75-$100 per session (sliding scale)
Private, Virtual (Skype) – $50-$75 per session (sliding scale)

I also offer semi-private/small group Yoga Therapy for clients who share similar goals/objectives for the practice. For example, I will hold space for a small group of individuals interested in Yoga Therapy for anxiety. All participants must be willing to complete an intake form prior to their first session. Discussing the intake form is optional and will only be allowed if all participants are open to sharing. If a participant wishes to discuss their progress privately, they must book a one to one session with me (30 minutes) for an additional cost. Small group offerings are limited to a maximum of 3 participants. The cost for this offering is the same as the sliding scale above, plus $10 per additional practitioner.

Booking Process

If you are interested in booking a session, you will first complete a Yoga Therapy Interest Form. This is so I can get to know a bit about you to determine if we’d be the right fit in working together. Once your interest form has been approved, I will reach out to you directly to schedule your first two sessions and to have you complete your New Client Forms.

Please reach out to me with any questions! I look forward to working with you.

She has such a special connection with you of making you feel truly seen and supported. Thank you Lara for your thoughtful insights and weaving of the yoga spirituality — something i had long craved in my life! A beautifully blended world, with therapy and yoga spirituality. I felt in complete alignment with all our our sessions!” – S.M.

It’s hard for me to put into words how much Lara’s guidance and gentle, warm energy has impacted my life. I first met her during a restorative yoga offering and I loved how she led us through each position with thoughtful guidance and intention. I have taken countless online offerings and I always finish class feeling inspired, relaxed and at peace with my body. I then was lucky enough to work with Lara 1:1 as her Yoga Therapy client. Lara meticulously reviewed my health history from medical to mental to spiritual. She compassionately and thoughtfully created a care plan to work on my goals together. Each session I felt seen, heard and supported. She provided an immense amount of suggestions and even my own personal practice videos and audios. I always looked forward to our sessions together as I knew Lara would just “get it” and help me feel less pain and alone. I am deeply indebted to her and the work we did together. After working with Lara, I feel empowered to weave a yoga practice into my daily life to remain balanced in my mental, emotional, spiritual and physical body. I am so grateful to have met her and experienced the magic she creates. If you are considering working with Lara, you will be so glad you did! – L.A.
